Just Egg’s product = Neither “Just” nor “Egg”!! @justegg

Education on how to properly read food labels is SO important to me. Labels can be very misleading, and this is one of THE most misleading marketing techniques I’ve seen in a while.
.
One of the first things to look for on your food label is the ingredients list. “Just Egg” is chock full of things I do not approve for my clients’ health nor for myself and my family. Here are just a few of the major inflammatory culprits:
• Canola oil - look up how it’s made and that alone will remind you to never consume or cook with canola!
• Gellum Gum- this is a food additive used as a binder, stabilizer, thickener, and to texturize processed food products. While more research is needed, this can cause digestive issues and throw off your healthy intestinal bacteria. This is especially true for those with sensitive digestive systems and autoimmune conditions.
• Natural Flavors- natural flavors are not always “natural”, and sadly, manufacturers are not required to be transparent with you on where they come from. As @healthline writes: “According to the Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit research organization, these mixtures can contain more than 100 different chemicals in addition to their original flavor source, including preservatives, solvents, and other substances.”
• Sugar- you should never need to add sugar to a product like this or 99% of products on the market. If it doesn’t taste great on its own, I’m suspect.

Food Storage Tips with NAO!

Don’t you hate when you buy gorgeous organic produce and it rots or molds before you get to enjoy it? We do too! It not only wastes money - it also increases food waste which is a serious problem. And you miss out on eating it!
.
We want to ensure that doesn’t happen and you keep your food fresh, delicious, AND save money.
.
Here is one example and three options for how to prevent your apple slices from browning! It’s Fall and apples are perfectly in season:
.
Option 1: Submerge apple slices in water! Put a paper towel on top so it absorbs water and pushes them down. Keep them in the fridge in an airtight container (preferably glass). This keeps the air from getting to them which is what makes them brown.
.
Option 2: Dissolve just 1/8 tsp salt in water (no more than that!). Put apple slices into the mix and let them soak for a few minutes. Then wash them off with fresh water and store in an airtight container. Don’t worry, washing them off will prevent them from tasting salty.
.
Option 3: An old favorite - squeeze citrus like lemon juice onto the apple slices! The citric acid in the lemons prevents browning. Store in an airtight container in the fridge.
.
Another friendly reminder: Meal Prep and only buy the ingredients in the amounts you actually need. That full bag of apples may look convenient and may be cheaper per lb., but if you aren’t going to be able to eat them all up in time, just hand select the number you need! (You will still save money, promise. 😉
.

What’s the first thing you do when you pick up a product and look at the label? If you’re like most people, you check out the calories and fat content first.
.
This has been ingrained in use for so many years! “Fat makes you fat” “Calories in, Calories out is the way to weight loss”. And so many more statements that aren`t 100% true.
.
I LOVE empowering my clients, both in one-to-one visits and my corporate presentations, to actually learn how to read a food label confidently. Once you’re equipped with these tools, you can play detective with ease and feel in charge of your health regardless of where you’re shopping!
.
Here are my top Food Label Education tips to get started with:
.
*Look at the Ingredients! This is the first step and the quickest way to know if the “food product” in your hands is coming from a whole foods source. We want recognizable names of real foods rather than chemicals, additives, food dyes, or names you can’t even pronounce! Pro tip: the ingredients are also listed in order of most prominent at the top, to least prominent toward the bottom. So if sugar is top of the list, put it back.
*Speaking of sugar, always look at “grams” of sugar listed underneath carbohydrates. Whether naturally occurring in the food itself (like in fruit) or added sugar (there are 56 names for added sugar btw!) you need to know how much you’re consuming in a sitting. Sugar is very pro inflammatory and can lead to weight gain, energy dips, anxiety, and more. Pro tip: 4g = 1 teaspoon of sugar. So say your food product contains 15+grams of sugar, that’s over a tablespoon of sugar in a sitting (and that’s not even taking into account serving size!). It all adds up quickly. SO many products on the market include added sugar because they want your taste buds and brain to crave more so you buy it again! [Continued in comments]

🤎Breathe, Meditate, or go for a walk prior - do something to clear your head and feel grounded.

🤎 Eat at normal intervals every 3-4 hours or as mild hunger comes on to keep your blood sugar stable!
🤎Write out any thoughts you might have and gently question them.

🤎Eat slowly- give your body 20 minutes to actually signal you’re full and chew thoroughly. Your body will thank you and you’ll savor it more!
🤎 If you have some of that favorite dessert someone traditionally makes, it’s okay. Give yourself permission to truly enjoy it.
🤎 Feel a bit bloated? No worries- have a little ginger tea to stimulate gut motility, rub some peppermint oil on the tummy (also stimulates movement and is super helpful for gas) and go for a walk after eating. Be kind and gentle with yourself.
🤎 ENJOY! It’s ONE day of many. Focus on gratitude, social time, and eat what fuels you.
