Nik’s Picks: Valentine’s Day Edition

I think these days we all realize how important it is to tell our loved ones just how much we love them because there’s no such thing as too much love. But seeing as tomorrow is the national day of expressing love, I wanted to take a second and let you know how much I love you and how grateful I am for you. My community of supporters, clients, colleagues, family, teachers, every one of you means so much to me and as you read this, I hope you feel a huge virtual hug.


Learn: Many of you might remember when we were advised to buy into the “low-fat” craze that drove our nation into even more of a sugar epidemic. Many followed these recommendations, switching saturated fat for sugar, and as a result we only became sicker.

Rewriting my recipes I was raised on with healthier ingredients has allowed me to not skip out on these special times that revolve around food. I added a graphic in about some sweeteners you can be eating in moderation vs. the sweeteners that you should mostly avoid.

Eat: No matter what you have planned this weekend, I hope you can take some time to experience something sensual and pleasurable that’s all for you. Maybe make this chocolate lava mug cake!

It’s indulgent, free of refined sugar and grains and is gonna make you feel so decadent and fancy.

¼ cup almond flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 tablespoons coconut sugar (can sub for monk fruit)
2 tablespoons cacao powder
⅛ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons coconut oil melted
2 tablespoons non-dairy milk
1-2 squares of your fav chocolate (@hukitchen is my go to)


1. Place all the dry ingredients into a bowl and stir to combine.
2. Add in the wet ingredients until a dough is formed.
3. Pour the mixture into a microwave safe mug, place chocolate squares in the middle and heat for about 70-90 seconds.


Try: This DIY exfoliating body scrub recipe is so easy to whip up. Plus, I bet you have all the ingredients In your kitchen! You can play around with flavors depending on your mood or needs.

I love lavender and rosemary or a bright citrus blend. Anything goes!

1 cup sugar (any kind)
3 tbsp liquid oil (coconut, almond, olive, etc)
1 tbsp sea salt
A few drops of essential oils
A tbsp of herbs or lemon zest

Combine all the ingredients. Put in a mason jar. Enjoy in the shower or bath or give it to a loved one.
